On Sunday, Oct. 16, 2005, I intently watched my TV as the PGA
Tour’s Michelin Championship unfolded in Las Vegas. A golf pro
named Wes Short Jr., who had never won the tournament, was about
to win it, along with $720,000.
I thought, wow, this is amazing. One putt will change the
course of his life forever. One minute later, the announcer said
the same thing, and I immediately applied this principle to the
bankcard industry. Could one putt, in other words, one merchant
processing account, earn us this kind of money? My answer was a
resounding yes! I love the bankcard industry for many reasons,
the biggest reason being the freedom of choice it offers. We
choose our own path and write our own script for failure or
success. We can choose to reap the financial rewards, or we can
choose to complain that everyone else always gets the big breaks
and makes the big money. Our determination leads the course to
our success.
In many ways the bankcard industry is immune to the pitfalls
and prejudices that other industries face. This industry doesn’t
care about the color of your skin or your faith or politics.
The industry marches on, relatively unaffected by interest
rates, or who currently holds the office of President of the
United States. It continues to grow, steadily, and gains
strength each year.
You may be wondering, who makes all this money in the bankcard
industry? The answer is surprisingly simple: hardworking people
from all walks of life, with a defined purpose and a burning
desire to succeed.
Did our PGA golfer simply get lucky, or did he fall into this
category of concentrated hard work? I think we all know the
answer. Short believed that he found the way to win in
professional golf; he simply put his methods to the test until
he succeeded. His desire to win overshadowed all obstacles. He
had a defined purpose and a burning desire to succeed. I think
almost every one of us can find a parallel in our own lives and
business success.
The point is simple: Find a way to make that one putt or write
that one merchant that could change the course of your life
forever. Here’s how to start the process.
By being in sales, you are already strategically positioned for
success. All you need to do is to think like a winner; however,
there’s more to it than simple daydreaming. You’ll also need to
put some concrete pieces into place.
Begin by devising a solid business plan and focus your energy on
that plan. Revise and expand the plan if necessary, but stick to
it and use it as your focus each day. There is no quick fix or
easy way to climb the financial mountain. Climbing any steep
mountain requires skill, stamina, training and a consuming
desire to get to the top.
Define Your Success Level and Create an Action Plan
Start by checking in with your desired success level. Is your
desire to succeed less than 100%? If so, that’s OK, but you will
encounter problems, and bankcard might not be the business for
you. If your desired success level is 100% or higher, begin
training to make the putt that could change your life. Also,
start with a solid action plan and put the following motivating
approaches into practice each day.
Professional Tactics
Work harder and smarter than you ever expected to. Winners
always outwork their competition.
Tell people how much you believe in the industry and that
bankcard is your professional calling.
People want to know that you’re committed.
Study and read everything you can about the industry (industry
publications, training manuals and relevant articles in larger
news sources).
Focus on large merchants. Spend about 30% of your time talking
to very large merchants in the community (merchants who process
more than $1 million a month).
Focus on the right techniques to write large merchants. Larger
merchants have different requirements, and you need to be
prepared to satisfy them.
Personal Tactics
Read an inspirational book a little each day. A must!
Look to a mentor that has “made that putt.” These people do
exist. Find them.
Let your speech and body language reflect your winning attitude.
Merchants know if you’re not giving 100%.
Practice and practice making that putt under pressure. When was
the last time you rehearsed your presentation?
Don’t quit no matter how tough or slow things get. Your courage
and stamina will be tested, and that’s OK.
Doing all these things will not guarantee that you drop the
life-changing putt. However, doing all these things will most
definitely change your life, and they will at the very least
position you to drop that putt.
Winning is a learned skill. Winning in business begins with
realizing how you think and what to expect from that thinking
process and then translating these into action.
I really believe that you, too, can make the winning putt that
changes your financial life. The bankcard industry rewards the
person who stays the course. Short was 41 before he won his
first PGA tournament. He did not give up. He kept his desire
alive until that putt dropped, and so can you.

When you are looking for an alternative countertop for your kitchen, wood can become a singular choice. It is a more exotic alternative that allows you to have a glamorous look in your kitchen. Wood countertops are more suited toward kitchens that have high wood content in their interior. Wood countertops can give a more traditional and classic look to your kitchen. It is perfect for houses that are trying to duplicate the Victorian look or the traditional noble look. You can easily buy a wood countertop from the Internet or from your local hardware store. Especially Red Oak countertops are quite popular these days amongst people who are choosing wood countertops for their kitchen.
However although wood countertops can give a home or kitchen a magnificent look to your kitchen, they can have several disadvantages. The main problem with wood countertops stems from the fact that they will require much more maintenance then normal countertops. As water and humidity sets in your kitchen, you will need to apply coating to your countertop every year to protect it against damage. In addition, you will have to dry it as soon as something is spilt on it to protect your wood countertop long term.

. I am astonished at the many people who have not achieved their
aims because they simply did not ask how it is done. Think of
all the missed opportunities, frustration pain, and yes, even
suffering people endure because they are not willing, or do not
know how or whom to ask. This article will help you ask for
anything. First, let’s look at some of the reasons people don’t
ask for what they want. I believe the primary reason people
don’t ask for what they want is plain old-fashioned ignorance. I
don’ mean to be offensive, but ignorance in that they just don’t
know. Either they don’t know what is available to them because
they have never been exposed to it, or they are so out of touch
with themselves that they no longer can tell their real needs
and wants. Another way ignorance come into play is that many
times people just don’t know who to ask, when to ask or how to
ask. This may sound simple, but when you find yourself in a new
situation, or new dilemma you often don’t know which way to
turn. A second hindrance to asking for what you want is the
notion that we should not need to ask. Unfortunately, may people
were raised to believe there is something wrong with asking.
Some even see asking as a form of weakness or admission of
failure. They couldn’t be farther from the truth.
Third, many of us do not ask for what we want because of fear of
rejection or embarrassment. Sometimes such fears are based on
hurtful incidents form the past, especially during the childhood
years. Sadly, to avoid rejection and embarrassment many of us
settle for a lifetime of underachievement based on these
unfounded fears.
A fourth consideration in not asking for what you want is that
all too familiar low self-esteem. I have found that many, if not
most of us feel unworthy or inadequate to create the kind of
life we want. As a result, we convince ourselves that our needs
and wants are not worth pursuing - so we don’t ask.
The fifth reason I believe we don’t ask for what we want is
pride. Many of us are convinced we need to do everything for
ourselves and fear we will look foolish or lose respect among
our family and peers if we admit the need for assistance. None
of these situations should keep you from getting what you want
and need out of live. You must take control of your life by
asking for what you want and need. You must begin to believe you
can accomplish anything your heart desires. You need to unlearn
some tired old unproductive beliefs beginning with the five
listed above. You can learn to overcome these hindrances and ask
for anything you want by: n Getting rid of ignorance. Start
asking questions now about anything you don’t understand. Ask
people how and why they do what they do and ask them why they do
it? The difference between success and failure is often as
simple as asking how. n Don’t worry about what other people
think, do or say. Always ask the questions you need answers for.
Remember, you will not receive what you don’s seek after. n
Accept rejection as a part of life. Rejection is a part of human
existence, accept it and live with it by not taking it
personally. Keep asking and in time someone will answer. Don’t
give up because you feeling get hurt. Keep moving and asking. n
Don’t wait until you have reached some imagined degree of
perfection before you ask for help or information. Your
self-worth must be based on what you know about yourself, not
what other think about you. Ask for what you need or want no
matter what others may think of you. n Put your pride in check.
Pride goes before the fall. In other words, don’t fail to
succeed because pride caused you to act out of ignorance instead
of knowledge. Ask the questions you need to ask and ask them of
whom you need to ask. Pride will not get it done. Asking the
right questions of the right person will make all the difference
in the world for you. Now you are ready to find the answers to
whatever questions you have been pondering. Read this article
again and print it out. Take it with you if necessary, but do,
right now, today - begin to ask for anything you want.

Organising corporate events can be exciting and interesting but simultaneously stressful and nerve-racking. This is especially true when corporate event managers are faced with a dilemma in balancing the need to create an enjoyable and beneficial event, and at the same time entrusted with the responsibility to create publicity for it.
Nevertheless, if the right approach is used, creating publicity for corporate events will become an easier task to manage. The following tips will provide you with an insight on some of the best practices used in creating publicity.
1. It’s always a good idea to work in a team, and delegate the task of creating publicity to a particular team member. This way, you won’t be caught up in the legwork, but rather be involved from an event manager perspective. Your responsibility then is to make decisions and guide others in getting things done for you.
2. Selecting the right person to delegate this task to is also an important factor in making your event a success. It is essential for this person to possess the necessary contacts with media companies, such as television stations and newspapers, way before the event kicks off.
3. Use short copywriting for direct mailers or newspaper advertisements. Good editing and good writing go hand-in-hand to create impact for your publicity pieces. Also, thick information packs are out of the question, unless specifically requested by the recipient.
4. Try not to use copywriting that may be a tad too creative or flowery. Your audience has no time trying to figure out your message, and it is best that you send them something direct and concise.
5. Although it may be common sense to include a contact number or an email address in your publicity pieces, you may be surprised that many corporate event organisers actually overlook this. Keep this in mind so that you can be contacted for further information.
6. No one wants to read outdated information. That is why your press releases should be kept as relevant and up to date as possible.
7. Always stick with the truth when you are answering questions from the media, or holding a press conference. Many corporate event managers tend to exaggerate and end up presenting an event that falls short of expectations.
Shane Williss has extensive experience in dealing with the media and creating the necessary publicity as an event manager of Chillisauce (http://www.chillisauce.co.uk), a corporate event organising company within the UK.

Your doctor has said the “C” word and you’re puzzling: “What do
I do now? There seem to be so many options. The doctor is
pressing me to get on with the surgery and chemotherapy/
radiation. Help!”
I’ve been there. I know. Unfortunately for my dear wife, there
was no readily available information in 1990-1994 (or, at least,
I failed to find it)… Now, there’s too much on the Internet
and in books, newsletters, etc.
A SOUND APPROACH
Of all the hundreds of people I have now watched overcome their
cancer, there seem to be four “essentials” that they all have. I
call them the “Four A’s.”
ATTITUDE — all cancer survivors share a positive
attitude. They know that they, not their doctors, are in charge
of their health. They know that all cancers, regardless of type
or “stage,” can be brought back under control. They know that
they must co-doctor for all the reasons you have already learned
about our conventional medical “system.”
ADVOCATE — Virtually all the cancer survivors I know
also had a loved one or friend willing to help them. How? * To
do the necessary research to get “smarter than their
oncologist.” * To accompany them to the doctor’s office. * To
help them decide when to get a second (or third, or fourth)
opinion and help them find a “holistic” doctor. * To help them
find and order the cheapest and best quality supplements.
Cancer patients often get depressed, tired or just plain
disgusted with the struggle to overcome their disease. Get an
“advocate.”
ASSISTANCE — Cancer recovery is not a “do it yourself”
project. Every cancer survivor has had supervision of their
treatment and recovery by a qualified medical professional. The
letters after his or her name are meaningless (M.D., D.O., N.D.,
D.C., etc.). What is important is that you, the cancer patient,
literally trust them with your life
Again, the resources for finding such a doctor through Internet
directories are phenomenal. My book has eleven such web
directories in Chapter 1. But don’t neglect the “jungle”
telegraph.” Ask all your friends (who agree with your approach).
I don’t have cancer. But I did what I recommend you do and found
my “holistic” doctor through a “holistic” dentist who had
treated my current wife.
ACTION — Get on with it! Don’t wait to begin taking
useful supplements (Chapter 5 in my book) until you’ve found the
perfect doctor. Start today. Cancer cells continue multiplying
out of control every day. They’re not at “Parade Rest” while you
decide what to do. Time matters. Get going!
IMMUNE SYSTEM STIMULATION
Whatever else you decide to do — whether it’s surgery,
chemotherapy, radiation, alternative treatments or some
combination of all of them — you must build up your immune
system — immediately. One of the world’s experts on the immune
system who has treated hundreds of cancer patients told me he
had never seen one with a strong immune system. With what you
know about the nature of cancer, this should not come as a
surprise. My immune system is controlling the cancer cells that
exist in my body every day. Yours is not. End of story.
A priority task for you now is to rebuild that immune system to
where it is at normal strength — soonest. How? Fortunately, you
have many options, all of which work. They are not cheap. And
they are not covered by insurance. Examples are RM-10, Msr-3,
Oncolyn and beta glucan. I cover all of them and more in detail
in my book. You can look them up on Google and order one on the
Internet today. Get one and get started taking it now.
THE FIVE-PRONGED ATTACH
A few cancer survivors used just one natural substance. That is
not what I recommend. Almost all those I know used somewhere
between 4 and 6 different substances. When they overcame their
cancer, neither they nor their doctor could tell you for sure
which one of the substances did the most work. Complicating it
further, not everyone reacts the same to all substances. There
are many variables:
* The complexities of cellular “communication.” * The various
types of cancer cells. * The metabolism of the cancer patient. *
The discipline he or she used in their diet, exercise,
supplements, etc.
What’s a cancer patient to do? My advice — come at the cancer
from at least five directions. What do I mean? Of the 100 or so
“alternative” (I hate that word!) cancer treatments I am aware
of, the ones I recommend use different theories for dealing with
the cancer cells. Each is effective. None has a 100%
effectiveness ratint. However, by using several of them at once,
you raise your odds dramatically of overcoming the cancer. They
also meet three absolute criteria:
* They are readily obtainable anywhere in the world. * They are
relatively inexpensive. * They work for all types of cancer.
In other words, I know personally many people who have used this
type of mix and are cancer-free for months or years (in some
cases 20-30 years).
In the next and last article in this series, I will describe
what I think are the best treatment options for this “mix.” If
you need complete information on this subject, you will find it
in my book “Cancer-Free,” which is available at my website (see
below).

River Birch Trees are fairly easy to plant because they are
fairly rugged and durable. Yet to plant or transplant them you
do need to follow some basic guidelines. Two of the best
cultivars or River Birch trees are Dura Heat and Heritage River
Birches. We have been growing River Birch Trees for a number of
years and offer these suggestions for planting in and around
Doylestown Pa..
All people handling Dura Heat and Heritage River Birches
seedlings and small trees need to help with the life support of
your plants. Seedlings are like fish out of water and need care
which is often overlooked between the time the seedlings are
lifted and transplanted. Improper care means higher mortality.
Do not try and reinvent the wheel. You must protect seedling
from moisture and temperature extremes, as well as physical
damage. Seedlings are living and should be handled carefully.
For a higher survival rate, treat trees carefully and plant them
immediately. I like to have a backup plan for planting if the
weather turns bad. I will sometimes switch from lining out the
seedlings to potting them up if I realize that the soil
conditions will not be right for an extended lenght of time. If
planting must be delayed a few days, keep the plants in a cold,
protected place with air circulation between the trees. Keep the
Dura Heat and Heritage River Birches trees out of the rain and
wind. To check if the trees need water, feel the media at the
roots.. If it isn’t damp, water the trees and allow the excess
water to drain. In cool, damp weather, the biggest threat to
these trees is from mold. Try to keep out of soil seedlings
moist by either restricting water loss with a water vapor
barrier or by wetting the roots at regular intervals. While
handling or planting try to reduce temperature and air movement
around the seedlings. Windy days can dry out seedlings so
consider waiting for calmer weather. Once your soil conditions
are correct OUR FREE USE PLANTERS will make planting a snap so
its will be worth waiting for good planting conditions.
HOW TO PLANT
Ideal planting days are cool and cloudy with little or no wind.
If possible, avoid planting on warm, windy days. The soil should
be moist not wet. Care in planting is more important than speed.
Make sure the roots are never allowed to become dry. Bare root
seedlings should be carried in a waterproof bag or bucket with
plenty of moist material packed around the roots to keep them
damp. Ideally, bare root boxes should be kept refrigerated or
packed in ice or snow. Don’t freeze the trees. Competition from
weeds, grass, brush or other trees is very detrimental to
survival and growth of seedlings. Choose areas free from this
competition or clear at least a three-foot square bare spot
before planting. Seedlings should not be planted under the crown
of existing trees, or closer than 6 feet to existing brush.
Avoid areas near walnut trees. Brush aside loose organic
material such as leaves, grass, etc., from the planting spot to
expose mineral soil. If organic matter gets into the planting
hole, it can decompose and leave air spaces. Roots will dry out
when they grow into these spaces. Open up the hole, making sure
the hole is deep enough for the roots to be fully extended. If
roots are curled or bunched up, the tree will not be able to
take up water correctly, will often weaken and die, or may blow
down later due to poor root structure. Take a tree out of your
planting bag or bucket only after a hole is ready. When exposed,
the fine roots can dry out in as little as 30 seconds. Seedling
shoots and roots lose water to air, roots require more
protecting.Unlike leaves ,they do not have stomata (closeable
openings on the surface of the leaves) or any waxy coatings to
help reduce water loss. If the Dura Heat and Heritage River
Birches roots apear dry they are probably dead. Now I know you
are thinking,”I will place them in a buckect of water and store
them there until planting”. This will not work. Submerge plants
for no longer that a couple of minutes. Placing them in water
cuts them off from oxygen. Remember to remove the container
before planting a containerized tree. A helpful hint to all
those new gardeners just starting is to remember to always plant
green side up. Hold the seedling in place in the hole, making
sure the roots are straight, fully extended and that the tree is
neither too shallow or too deep in the hole. Fill hole, allowing
soil to fall in around the roots. Tamp with hands or with your
heel. Don’t crush the roots by jumping up and down around the
seedling like there is a snake curled up around the seedling. It
is delicate. Fill with more soil, if necessary, and tamp.
Tamping is important. If soil is not firmly packed around the
roots, there will be air pockets that can dry out the roots, and
the seedlings may be weakly anchored. It is far easier to plant
the tree strait up then have the tree leaning and have to adjust
the tree later. (Addition of fertilizer and plant vitamins at
the time of planting is not generally necessary.) Take your time
in planting. Proper spacing will help you grow a more valuable
crop. I have tried to get more production from a limited area by
over planting and then thinning, but I always have had trouble
in harvesting …. digging is slower and poor quality usually
results for a portion of the crop. Avoid these tree planting
errors:
Tangled roots Planting too shallow Planting too deep Air pockets
Turned up roots (this is called J rooting) Planting trees that
are not tolerant of wet soils in poorly drained areas Planting
over rocks, septic tanks and leach fields, on sand mounds
CARE OF TREES FOLLOWING PLANTING Check periodically to be sure
that brush, grass and other vegetation is kept under control by
mowing, mulching, spraying or a combination of these treatments.
Always obtain advice from a licensed pest control advisor before
using chemicals. You ag extension agency may offer courses in
application of chemicals. Monitoring the appearance of your
trees will help you to detect signs of insects, diseases or
other problems. Apperances also help sell your product. Look for
foliage turning yellow, new foliage drooping or other signs of
poor health. It is easier to take successful corrective action
if the problem is detected early.
Over watering is a common problem in irrigated plantations. You
probably won’t need to water more frequently than every 7-10
days. Give your trees a thorough, deep soak and then let the
soil dry out before the next watering. This encourages the roots
to grow down in search of water. Frequent, shallow watering
encourages root growth near the surface and the trees are more
dependent on irrigation and are less windfirm. Animals can be a
major cause of damage to young trees. Porcupines, gophers, mice,
rabbits, deer and cattle are the most frequent source of damage.
In many states you may have to call your game commission and get
their recomendations on legal methods to protect your crop. In
our state, you can get help from the Pa. Game Commission to kill
deer that are a threat to your seedlings or obtain a free fence
to keep deer away from your seedlings. Over the years we have
lost more trees to mice than any other animal. Put rat baits out
on a regular basis. Over the years we have lost more seedlings
and plants to mice than any other culprit including deer and
rabbitts combined. You can see other articles written by Bill
