  • Holiday Shopping On eBay

Whether we like it or not, the holiday season has become the shopping season. But there is a way to remove the traffic and hassles from your holiday gift buying — eBay. Shop in the comfort of your own home, and have fun in the process.

    Perfect Gifts

If you know the kinds of things your friends and family like, then eBay’s categories are ideal places to get ideas. And then a few clicks later, you’re shopping — at bargain basement prices.

eBay offers a cool way to come up with gift ideas. Think of a recent item that your gift recipient bought for themselves. Type it into eBay’s search box and see which category it’s in, then click the link to look at everything in that category. You’ll immediately have a huge list of things that they would probably love to have. If you know the recipient well, you should have no trouble sorting through the suggestions to find a special and unique gift.

    Let History Be Your Guide

You have an extra tool available when the people you’re buying for are eBay users. If you know their eBay usernames, you can look at what they’ve been buying to see the kinds of things they may want.

First, click Advanced Search on the main page, then Find A Member on the left-hand menu to see an eBay user’s history. Type in the username and you’ll get their user page, which lists the item numbers of everything they have bought. Choose an item number and paste it into the eBay search box to find out what the item was. Voila! You have a nearly foolproof list of ideal gifts for that person on your shopping list.

    Avoid Last-Minute Shopping

Don’t be tempted to use eBay for your last-minute holiday shopping, though. The prices will be high, and items might not reach you in time.

Every year there’s a toy every child wants and all the stores sell out. Suddenly the toy appears on eBay — at a premium. Holiday shoppers have to pay many times the gift’s value, and still don’t receive it in time for the big day. Don’t get caught in this snare.

    ‘Tis The Season

The holiday season is peak time at eBay because millions of people are shopping there. A good percentage of them are inexperienced eBay shoppers, who drive up prices far above normal. Try not to end up paying too much for an item just because it’s the last one you could receive in time, or because everyone else is bidding high. Know when to cut your losses, stop bidding, and just go buy something from the local store.

    Keep It Jolly

eBay works best when it’s not taken too seriously. Treat it like a game, and you won’t be too disappointed if you lose. It can feel somewhat like gambling, but when that really rare gift for that special someone arrives on your doorstep just in time for Christmas, it all becomes worth it.

Boost E-Bay Profits With Web Audio

Can you boost profits significantly by adding audio to your E-Bay auctions? According to a recent article on a net business site the answer is a definite yes. In fact, one e-book author suggested that adding audio to your auctions could potentially increase bids by as much as 22% over auctions without audio.

A recent trend showing up on a lot of websites is the addition of an audio clip. The clip is a personal message by the author or the website owner encouraging you to take advantage of what they offer.

The psychology behind this technique is really Marketing 101. It’s called personalization. An audio clip added to your Ebay auction allows you to personally tell the potential bidder about the product. Using your own voice allows you to make contact with the bidder on a personal level that written words cannot. Because, that’s what your E-Bay auction really is…It’s just a long written classified ad asking the bidder to make an offer to purchase your item.

Prior to the advent of the telephone the only reliable way to communicate long distance was by writing letters. It was not unusual back then for lovers to write each other daily or weekly. The decline of letter writing is a well documented event that coincides with the advent of the telephone. The power of the human voice to convey a message triumphs that of the written word.

With audio you can describe the item, tell the bidder why you are selling it or even communicate with them about your refund policy or provide your contact information. The possibilities are almost unlimited as a way to establish a rapport with the bidder.

There are some technical elements to adding audio to your E-Bay auctions. The simplest way is to upload a .wav or Mp3 file to a website and provide a link to the file. When the bidder clicks on the link his or her computer will automatically recognize the file and play it with the audio player on the bidders computer.

There are some drawbacks to this method. If the bidder’s computer doesn’t recognize the file it won’t play. The overall effect is not as professional as it could be and it distracts the bidder. If you are a reasonably tech savvy type you can easily deal with the drawbacks of this approach.

For the rest of us, there are a number of software solutions and websites that will simplify the task of adding audio to our E-Bay auctions. These different programs and websites range from charging a one time fee to monthly fee’s for the use of the program. The good news is that many of them will let try them for as little as $1 for a trial basis or let you download a demo version to see how well it will work for you.

How To Use Ebay’s “Second Chance Offer” Feature.

When someone wins your auction, you might think that’s the end of it. In fact, you can offer the item to anyone else who bid in the auction but didn’t win.

    Why Would I Do That?

There are three reasons you might want to do this:

    1. Your top bidder never paid. Unfortunately for sellers, it is all too common for buyers to win an item and then decide they don’t want it after all. Making a second chance offer lets you offer the item to a buyer with a better reputation.

    2. You have another one. If you have another item just like the one you just sold then you might as well sell it to another bidder - after all, you know they’re interested and what they’re willing to pay.

    3. A buyer emails you directly to ask. If they got ’sniped’ at the last second, or just weren’t around when the auction ended, then a buyer might email you to ask if you’ll sell them one for however many dollars. You might as well make them an offer - it’s a free sale.

So How Do You Make a Second Chance Offer?

Well, it’s easy really. The easiest place to send a second chance offer from is the My eBay screen - simply go to the Selling page and click ‘Make a Second Chance Offer’. eBay should also provide a link for you to make a second chance offer in the email you will receive after the sale of an item is completed, or you report a non-paying buyer.

    What Happens Next?

The buyer can choose to either accept or reject your offer. If they decline, that’s the end of it, and you pay nothing for making the offer. If they accept, then things work exactly the same way they would if they’d won the auction - you pay a final value fee, they pay you, and you can leave feedback for each other as normal.

Making a second chance offer on all your auctions can be a great way to make extra sales. You will probably find that about 50% of the buyers you make offers to will take them up, and you save the effort of relisting the item and paying another insertion fee.

The only disadvantage is the time that it might take you to send so many second chance offers, but the chances are it will be time well spent. If you find that it doesn’t work for your particular kind of items, though, don’t keep pushing it - just re-list the item and let people bid again. It might be that the buyers for your items just aren’t the negotiating type - or perhaps they hope that the next one will sell for less.

By now, you’re probably starting to make a success of your eBay business - I hope you’ve enjoyed it so far! But the chances are you still want a few more strategies to increase your profits. Well, in the next email, we’ll take a look at what you can discover from taking a good look at your competitors’ auctions.

Wholesale electronics offers resellers high profit margins along with high volume sales, when done right. Resellers, whether flea market vendors, eBay sellers, or dollar stores, will be faced with competition from online and offline retailers who can buy wholesale electronics at a lower price. To outmaneuver this competition in the wholesale electronics business, resellers need to have a strategic plan in place. Part one of their plan deals with finding the best sources for wholesale electronics at the lowest possible prices. For this reason I would recommend resellers to stay away from drop shippers when looking for wholesale electronics..
