  • Travel Breaks for the Environmentally Conscious Holiday Maker

Hundreds of snowboarders will shortly be finding their skiing gear and scooting off looking for the biggest snow conditions.

And undoubtedly the impact of our carbon footprint will be nearly as far down the list of holiday to dos as a xmas cracker after the Christmas vacation.

Just last winter, a tardy snow made the the headlines and holidaymakers panicked about the flakes of snow melting almost as soon as they landed.

Holiday business Chalet1802, located at the base of Mont Blanc in Chamonix Mont Blanc in the French Alps, is one of the first autonomous firms to go carbon neutral and afford snowboarders an environmentally friendly selection while reserving their skiing trip.

Chalet1802 owner Adwin said: Last year was quite a shock with the most warm winter in sixty years in France. Alpine skiing areas for example Savoie, Flegere and Bessans suffered. It was temperate and the snowfall did not settle so much of the early winter skiing season in the French Alps was uneven. We selected to go carbon neutral to assist in the preservation the snowboarding resort.

Adwin said: We are not attempting to dictate to clients only I believe it’s crucial to provide them the selection without augmenting the cost of the stay. If the guest book with us and visits our chalet Chamonix they may further off set their carbon output and we absorb the extra costs. Of course we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers desire lavishness but not at the expense of the environs, so we looked at ways of lessening the results of a client flying over here for a holiday.”The business have moreover partnered with organisation Climate Care, which attacks global warming by providing carbon dioxide reductions on behalf of people and companies.

  • Photography Safaris Will Get You up Close

For those women that have never tried a walking safari in South Africa may find it hard to imagine the spectacular wildlife you will photograph. The folk who come to a wildlife safari are regular people like you and me, some are into photography, some holiday makers are into African animals but all of them are interested in a new fantastic experience.

The unbelievable thing about a safari is the fact it is so different from a normal holiday to Spain, there are very little families. Each African safari company will supply an English speaking tourist guide to take you through the beautiful areas of South Africa. The most popular wildlife you can see are eagles. The aforementioned phenomenal animals are not tame and of course don?t feed them. If you are interested in taking wildlife photographs of the cheetahs you should make sure you turn off the flash as you do not want to scare the wildlife. The fantastic animals in Southern Africa might put a huge grin on your face.

If you would love to ascertain more about wonderful safaris in South Africa you could use the search engine like Google to notice a company that offers safaris from the UK, the costs will probably range from four hundred pounds to 800 pounds. Kaingo offer a range of safari holidays in Africa.

    Christmas Gift Ideas

Christmas is such a special day. It is a day of giving and receiving love, joy and happiness. The Christmas spirit is very pure; just like the immaculate conception of Mother Mary and the birth of Jesus Christ. By giving away Christmas gifts, an individual experiences the joys of giving. The best thing about Christmas gifts is that they need not cost the skies to make an impression. When gifts are exchanged on Christmas, all that matters is the amount of love with which it was made or purchased. Best way to do a Christmas shopping is to do it online. No need to rush about stores and malls. Just a few clicks of the mouse will do; your gifts are ready to be dispatched in no time at all.

In case you need some ideas to help you decide upon the best Christmas gifts different categories of people, then here you go:

    • CHILDREN look forward to Christmas gifts the most. Hence all efforts should be made to buy the best gift for them. Remember, they can get easily disappointed. The best thing about buying gifts for children is that they can actually be asked what exactly they want for Christmas. Kids do not have inhibitions and are bound give an honest answer. Toys, games CDs and clothes usually top their list. Find out if the kid is a bookworm. In that case, a mystery novel would do the trick. Sweets and chocolates are a must and should form a part of the gift you plan to give the kid. This doubles the pleasure of the child when he opens your gift packet.

    • WOMEN would never tell anybody what they actually want as a gift. So you have to make an educated guess. Apart from jewelry, clothes and accessories you can choose from the following items as a gift.
      • Exquisite crystal or ceramic figurines and nativity scenes
      • Sweet smelling candles of different sizes and shapes
      • Carved musical jewelry boxes
      • Decorative pieces like vases and photo frames
      • Musical albums
      • Cutlery and glassware
      • Recipe books

    • MEN take a fancy to leather goods of all kinds. Leather wallets, jackets, bags and belts are ideal for them. Formal shirts, T-shirts, sweaters and socks are preferred clothing articles. If the man were a sporty kind, then he wouldn’t mind the occasional baseball or golf stick. Electronic goods are of course a favorite with most men.

    • CORPORATE Christmas gifts can include holidays, holiday trips and outings. Gift items are very formal like annual diaries, files and folders.

    • BABIES can be given soft toys; cradles, milk bottles, diapers and baby care products like soaps, oils and powders are also preferable.

Be Amazed By the Magnificent Windsor Castle

Windsor Castle is the biggest inhabited castles in the world & the eldest in nonstop occupation (more than 900 years). It is one of the Queen’s three royal homes, & is over and over again thought to be easily her most desired home. The Royal Standard flies over the Round Tower of Windsor Castle at anytime the Queen is at the residence - though, at other occasions, the Union Jack banner flies instead.

Samuel Pepys remarked the Castle to be “the most passionate castle in the world.” That was thought in 1666, and the same is true even now.

    Windsor Castle Rich History:

The start of Windsor lies in the beginning of the seventh century Saxon village of Windlesora, where the contemporary day parish of Old Windsor is. The town of Windsor is rightly known as the “New Windsor” - the phrase “new” being taken in a relative way! The England tourism board has plenty of other Royal attractions to visit in England.

Windsor Castle was firstly put up by the infamous William the Conqueror, as a result of his hit of England in ten-sixty-six. The original structure was erected from timber with sol barricades. Windsor Castle held a noticeable tactical position on a steep hill just above the River Thames, & was a fraction of a band of fortresses surrounding the City, with the Tower of London, one day’s trek away, at its heart.

The Castle was later on restored in rock, & increased in significance during the years. Later on Henry 2nd created the Round Tower & the original stone outer wall. After the English Civil War, the Castle’s principal role became that of a royal palace. Windsor Castle has stayed totally unaffected from the early 19th century, apart from the refurbishment work straight after the fire.

Holidays: The Best Gifts Are the Ones You Can’t Wrap

What’s the worst present you have ever received? Was it the old reliable soap-on-a-rope? Or a tie you would not be caught dead wearing?

The worst one I remember is what I think was a handmade bird feeder with glued-on moss and other decorations that I could not identify. We put it outside with bird feed, and not a single bird or squirrel would come close.

During this season of gift giving, let’s consider a few gifts of more lasting value - the ones you can’t put a price tag on or even wrap.

    The gift of appreciation

I’ve never known a person who did not enjoy being appreciated. I remember years ago learning this in a rather unique and powerful way.

John Scott, the director of the adolescent drug-treatment center for which I worked in the ’80’s, had a neat way of making kids feel appreciated. These were kids who, as you might imagine, were not happy about being in a treatment center. John would sometimes casually say to a kid, “Hey, I’m glad you’re here.”

It was amazing to see what a word of appreciation would do to a kid’s attitude. Who might need to hear these words from you?

    The gift of caring

Here is one of my favorite quotes: “Being cared about is something so desperately needed in this depersonalized world that people will crawl across a thousand miles of desert to get it.”

Everything in my experience as a counselor bears this out. Who in your life needs - perhaps even desperately needs to know - how much you care about them? Telling them how much you care may be the best gift they receive this year.

    The gift of belonging

One of the greatest human needs is to have a sense of belonging. In an emotional sense, it’s like air is to the body. We will go to great lengths to feel that we belong to something or someone. Without it, the soul begins to wither. Who do you need to include in your gift of belonging this year?

    The gift of politeness

It amazes me how rude we can be. I want to believe it comes from a false sense of urgency and the perceived need to rush around getting everything done. From letting someone in front of you in traffic to using the words “please” and “thank you,” small politeness can go a long way.

    The gift of rest

We live in such a frenetic and stressful world. I know very few people who feel rested with any regularity. And yet rest restores your energy, concentration and motivation. This one has two gifts in one: Give yourself the gift of rest, and set it up so that someone close to you can get some rest as well.

    The gift of reconciliation

Poet Hugh Prather has said: “People eventually forgive and come back together because we need friends more than we need pride.”

Is there someone with whom you need to reconcile this year? Perhaps something in a relationship that needs to be cleaned up? Take the initiative. Say the words.

    The gift of wisdom

It’s been said that wisdom is the application of knowledge. Who needs the gift of your wisdom this season? Is there a specific skill you have that could be shared with someone who really needs it? What knowledge do you have that needs to be applied to your own life?

Tired of the Cold Weather? Get a Cruise Ship Job This Winter!

With Winter here, and the cold setting in, maybe it’s time to think about climates sunnier? One very popular solution is to “Get a cruise ship job!” Think about it, sailing around the Caribbean for 6 to 8 months at time, visiting idyllic islands everyday like Barbados, St. Thomas, Aruba, and the Bahamas. Oh and having great fun in the sun! This is exactly what I did for five years in a row, and you can do it too!

Now, before you run off and start blasting your resume out to every cruise ship company in the world there are a couple of things you need to think about. Although cruise ship life does have its perks, I must warn you that it also has some ‘negatives’. First of all, you will probably be living in a room smaller than most walk-in closets, and sharing it with another person. Secondly, when you start to work for a cruise ship company, you will not have the freedom of “Land life”. As a cruise ship employee you will be under fairly strict rules and regulations (what you can and can’t do on the ship, crew curfews, what you can wear, and other rules).

This is generally for the safety of all ship passengers. You don’t have the freedom, to just jump in your car and go to the movie theatre, or go for a long road trip to relieve stress. When you sign a contract on a ship, it is usually for a minimum of 6-months (although shorter or longer contracts are available for certain positions). Plus in many positions you can be expected to work everyday. Not ALL day but at least a part of the day. Usually this is when the ship has left port and all the passengers are back onboard.

With all this, I feel that a cruise ship job is the best place for young people to work, earn $300-$700 U.S. per week cash, and travel the world for free with all of your expenses paid. Every cruise ship company that I have worked for really does go out of their way to take care of their crew. They pay for your flight and travel expenses to meet the ship, and if you complete your contract they pay for your way home. Food is provided for free to crew of the ship and alcoholic beverages are dirt cheap. There are not too many places in this world that you never have to pay for food, board or travel.

To work on a ship you have to be able to leave everything behind at home for at least six months. This job is perfect for people without any ties like a spouse, a house, or even a pet. The job is a great fit for students that are taking a ‘gap year’, or have graduated and are looking for a break before they enter the “real” world. All you need is a valid passport, be drug free (they randomly drug test their employees on a regular basis). You must also be prepared to leave when needed, and be a friendly, ‘customer focused’ person.

A lot of people come to me and tell me that they have applied to cruise ship companies before and have never had a response. Well this is very understandable when you realize that major cruise ship companies receive thousands of resumes every week. They often sort through the resumes and throw them out for the smallest reason. I have a couple of friends that were human resource managers at major cruise lines, and they have told me some interesting stories. The first sort of a pile of resumes is done on punctuation and spelling errors. If there is absolutely any punctuation error your resume will be “filed” (thrown away). They could then sort on anything they feel like, for example, font, paper color, or even length. The best advice I can give you is to keep it simple, and be meticulous for details and consistency.

They have jobs for most everyone on board a cruise ship. A lot of the newer cruise ships set sail with over 2,000 guests and over 800 crew on board. Cruise ships are becoming small cities on the ocean. They have everything you could want from a shopping area, theatres, dining rooms, live shows, hotel services, passenger activities, health clubs, and spas. Whatever your trade or skill is on land; there is a 99% chance they have a job for you on a cruise ship.

    How To Avoid Holiday Overeating

The holidays are upon and so is the urge to overeat. While a few nibbles on grandma’s triple chocolate truffles and aunt Glinda’s red velvet cake might seem innocent enough, according to “Consumer Reports on Health” that’s exactly how most people pack on their annual weight gain- overindulging during the holiday seasons.

Most reasons for overeating during the holidays are purely psychological. You could easily avoid overeating if you knew the dieting mind games and the mental tools needed to combat them. To help you stay on track during the holidays, use these tips to defeat the five most common dieting mind games before they kick-off the holiday seasons.

#1. Beating the “feel good” factor
People overeat during the holidays because it makes them “feel good”. Chocolate and sugary foods load the body with serotonin- the feel good hormone. Instead of eating sweets to feel good, try talking with a visiting relative and joking. Plus, give out lots of hugs; this will also boost your body’s level of “feel good” hormones.

#2. “It’s the only time this year I’ll get to eat this food”
The “holiday food shortage” mentality spurs overeating. There is never a shortage of holiday food. When you get the urge to overindulge in a particular food, get the recipe and make the dish yourself.

If a dish proves irresistible, eat a portion and still get the recipe. That way, psychologically you’ll know that if you ever want to eat this dish again, you can.

#3 “This dish reminds me so much of home” sentimental overeating
It’s not the food that reminds you of home but the people with whom you enjoy the food that reminds you of home. Food is so wonderful and powerful because we associate people with the food. Instead of remembering your family by eating, try to recall some of the other activities that your family enjoys doing together such as shoveling snow, ice skating or making Christmas ornaments.

#4 I’ll make it up at the gym
Exchanging pecan pie for 30-minutes at the gym makes the gym seem like something “bad”. Instead decide what sport or activity you want to engage in this winter: hiking, walking, ice skating, swimming, golfing etc. Exercise because you want to, not because you have to. (Note: Really, have you seen how empty gyms are during the holidays?)

#5 It’s no big deal, it’s just once a year
While people may only gain around one pound during the holidays, if you’ve been gaining an extra pound for last 10-20 years this adds up. While overeating this year may seem OK, if you keep doing it, you’ll consistently gain more and more weight.

In short, the easiest way to keep your body weight on track this holiday season is to focus less on food and more on the people that you love. Now, just remember, before you down that how jug of spiked eggnog, ask yourself, “Do I need to go hug somebody first?” Happy Holidays.

Hong Kong Hotels - The Best Places To Stay During The Chinese New Year’s Celebration

The New Year’s celebration is Hong Kong’s biggest event of the year. The three-day extravaganza includes a colorful parade on the first day, a brilliant display of fireworks over Victoria Harbour on the second day and horse races on the third. To best take advantage of all Hong Kong has to offer during this celebration, travelers should stay near the action.Fortunately, Hong Kong has long been a popular destination for both business and pleasure travelers and fantastic hotels are abundant in the area.

The Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong is a five star hotel located close to the New Year’s parade route. Rooms feature spectacular views of Victoria Peak, the city or, for a higher price, the harbor. The décor is elegant and traditional. However, the Ritz-Carlton’s greatest strength is its amazing level of service. The numerous helpful staff members work hard to make guests feel pampered and appreciated. Tasty complimentary cookies are always available in the reception area, a favorite perk for guests.

Another five star hotel situated near the parade route is the Island Shangri-La Hotel, located at the Pacific Place development in the Central District of Hong Kong. The location is one of the best in Hong Kong with plenty to see and do nearby. Shoppers will appreciate the large shopping mall also housed in Pacific Place. The hotel boasts many leisure facilities, including a health club and swimming pool, and there are a variety of bars and restaurants featuring different types of cuisine. The rooms are lavishly appointed and command views of the peak or the harbor, perfect for watching the fireworks display.

Also located at Pacific Place is the classy Conrad Hong Kong, another five star hotel. Rooms are decorated with an elegant, modern flair, but touches like the teddy bear by the bed and rubber duckie in the bath are fun and homey. Each year the Conrad’s distinctive lobby is beautifully decorated for the New Year’s celebration. The hotel also boasts several excellent eateries as well leisure facilities. The Conrad Hong Kong is conveniently located near the subway system, which provides easy access to all of Hong Kong.

While the luxury hotels in Hong Kong are extraordinary, there are also many wonderful, less expensive hotels in the area. Across the harbor in Kowloon’s Tsim Sha Tsui area are many hotels, several with beautiful views of Hong Kong Island as well as the harbor. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and nightlife in Tsim Sha Tsui and the Island can be easily accessed by subway or by taking a picturesque ferry ride across the harbor.

Two moderately priced hotels to try in this area are the Hyatt Regency and the Holiday Inn. The Hyatt Regency Hong Kong is in a great location in Tsim Sha Tsui, close to shopping and a subway station. Many travelers find good sale prices for the Hyatt’s rooms. The Holiday Inn Golden Mile is a typical Holiday Inn, with a fitness center and a nice pool. This hotel is also near the subway and it’s an easy walk to the ferry.

Planning a trip to Hong Kong can feel a bit overwhelming — there is so much to see and do, and it’s virtually impossible to include every activity. From the worlds largest night parade and top Hong Kong attractions to great dining and exciting nightlife, you’re sure to enjoy the Pearl of the Orient! Choosing the right Hong Kong hotel will make your journey more enjoyable for all the must-see and must-do experiences, during Hong Kong’s biggest event of the year.
