For many years copper has been the main raw material used by the
Mexican artisans of Santa Clara del Cobre for the fabrication of
their beautiful artisan items. Originally artisans relied on the
natural supply of copper of their lands for the fabrication of
their items. But has the supply of the original sources has
decreased and the demand for items as copper sinks has increased
they have had to think and look for new and alternate sources of
copper material.
Thankfully they have found a reliable source of copper in the
recycling industry. Trucks loaded with tons of copper junk
coming form many parts in central Mexico arrive every week and
deliver their precious load to the artisans shops. Artisans pay
the load of copper according to the cleanness of the material,
the cleaner your copper the closer you will get to be paid at
international market prices for pure copper, that lately has
been increasing steeply making this recycling business more
profitable for the copper gatherers. Though all junk serves,
artisans specially avoid junk made of copper wires covered with
too much soldering due to the harming potential that this
impurities have for the very characteristic look of their
handmade copper items.
The high demand and good price paid for copper junk has created
a new industry of copper gatherers in central Mexico with a
number of benefits for the environment turning old useless junk
yards into a profitable mine of copper and preserving natural
copper sources for more strategic applications. And at the same
time it has also benefited the economy of the abundant
population of this region of Mexico that has seen a growing
industrialization in recent years.
So now many people may have one more reason to buy a copper
sink; that they are environmental friendly.

Window treatments are not just the standard traverse rod or basic pole. Some supports are designed to be unseen and allow curtains to be able to draw on all the attention. Finals, holdbacks, drapery pins, and swag holders are available in a wide choice of motifs from fleurs-de-lis to curlicues, and ram heads, even the use of the poles and rods have great décor possibilities. A variety of materials that they are available in are: Brass; cast and wrought iron; steel, gold and nickel plated. If your hardware, is visible choose the style to compliment your curtains.
Choosing your window décor hardware
First evaluate the window and the window covering that you’re planning to use. Will the design be installed inside or outside of the window frame? Each design is different for each window application. An inside mount requires a pole or rod which fits within the widow frame. Ideas include a basic traverse rod, ceiling mount rod, a swivel rod, and a tension rod. The outside mount design has no restrictions. Is your window treatment moveable or is it stationary? With the stationary treatment you could try the continental rod or pole with finals. With the moveable treatment the traverse rods work the best. What also influences your decision is whether you will see the hardware or not. If you would like to show off your hardware, a poll with finals will be your most decorative option. If your hardware is to remain unseen, the traverse rod will do the trick - it will allow easy movement of the curtain and tuck below a cornice or valence.
Planning ahead on operating controls.
Make sure you plan ahead where the operating controls will be located. Usually you place the control on the side with the best access and least visibility. If you’re operating a cord and wand system, have both on the same side of your treatment. For corner windows, so they don’t look cluttered, have the cord system on the right for the right window, and the other on the left side for the left window.

With so many homeowners in the market for more energy efficient windows and doors for their home, I thought I would use this week’s article to cover the more common terms used to describe a window’s ability to insulate your home from the elements. There is an organization called The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). Their purpose is to test each window manufacturer’s product to independently verify the ratings for each test administered. So, let’s discuss each test and what it means.
First, there is the U-Factor. This number represents the rate that heat escapes through the window. Therefore, the lower the U-Factor, the better the window. Most vinyl replacement windows with standard, dual pane glass, have a U-Factor around .5. When you add LowE glass in place of the standard clear glass, the U-Factor comes down below .4. By replacing the air between the panes of glass with Argon or Krypton gas, the U-Factor can be reduced to around .3. The Government’s energy star program requires a window to have a U-Factor below a certain number in order to be energy star rated. You need to find out what that rating is in your particular area of the country. You can start by going to the energy star website. In areas of the country where rebates are given for installing energy star rated products in your home, you will only receive the rebate by proving that your windows have a U-Factor less than the maximum allowed. That proof comes from the manufacturer’s NFRC label affixed to each window.
Another test is called Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC). The SHGC measures a window’s rate of heat penetration from outside. The lower the number, the better resistance there is to heat getting into the house from outside. There are also air and water infiltration tests. The air test actually tests how much air is able to pass through the window from outside to inside. Therefore, you want a low number. Typically, a .30 is the maximum allowable rate of air infiltration. Water infiltration tests the amount of water and pressure the window is able to resist. Therefore, the higher rating is better for this test. Frankly, i wish they would just rate all tests on a 1 to 10 scale, with 10 being best. Then, you wouldn’t get confused trying to remember which tests should have high numbers and which ones should have low numbers. You can get more information on window testing by going to the NFRC Website .

Studies have shown that remodeling a kitchen is one of the most cost effective and valuable home improvements you can make. Unlike many other home improvements, remodeling a kitchen can pay for itself in enhanced home value as well as greater comfort for yourself and your family.
When remodeling a kitchen, however, it is important to go about it the right way, so we present here 10 things to consider when remodeling your kitchen.
1. Know what you want before you start. Look for inspiration in a number of places, including books, brochures and home improvement stores. Visit some home shows to see how the professionals go about remodeling a kitchen.
2. Write down your plan, and use it to guide you. It is important to sketch out what you want your new kitchen to look like, including the countertops, the stove, the dining island, etc. Having a sketch to work with will be quite valuable as you proceed.
3. Pay attention to budget. It is important to establish a budget ahead of time, and to keep that budget in mind as you go forward. When you establish your budget, be realistic. Most home improvement projects unfortunately end up over budget. Coming up with a realistic budget up front will help you avoid overspending as the project moves forward.
4. Don’t forget the value of a good paint job. It is amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do for even the oldest and most tired looking room. A fresh coat of paint is inexpensive, so why not start your kitchen remodeling by slapping on a fresh coat?
5. Pay attention to the details. Attention to detail is vital when remodeling any room, but it is particularly important when remodeling a kitchen. Be sure to pay attention to the little things, like doorknobs, cabinet hardware and handles.
6. Keep track of your progress. Using a simple bulletin board or chalkboard is a great and cost effective way to keep track of your project.
7. Pay attention to the lighting. The right lighting can make all the difference in the world. Pay attention to the importance of lighting when planning your kitchen remodeling project.
8. Keep yourself organized. Lack of organization is one of those things that can doom even the best intentioned remodeling project. It is important to set a realistic timetable for completion of the project. Mark the key dates in red on your calendar to make sure the deadlines are met.
9. Pay attention to the whole picture. While a kitchen remodeling project consists of many different elements, including choosing new appliances, new cabinets, etc., it is important not to lose sight of the big picture.
10. Consider new textures and colors for your countertops. The countertops are perhaps the most visible part of a kitchen remodeling project. Consider sprucing up your countertops with new colors and textures, like black marble or sparking white tile.

Your home is one of the most important places you have to invest on. Also, everything inside should be harmonious to each other. Like for example, your ceiling should match your doors, your walls should match your doors and so on. One of the most important things you should consider in your home is the flooring.
Flooring is very important and should be suitable for the kind of rooms your will be making. You probably don’t want a wood flowing in your bathroom or kitchen right? You should consider that water and wood don’t mix well. So what kind of flooring should you use for your bathroom or your kitchen?
You’re probably thinking floorings that wouldn’t rot in water. Tiles would be great, and it is. You should use tiles as flooring for areas that will get wet. What about the living room and your bedroom, you might ask. To make it attractive and refreshing to look at, you should consider hardwood flooring. It can be very attractive, especially if you have wood bookcases, cabinets and traditional furniture in your home. Your walls should also compliment the flooring. This is why choosing a paint color is essential to what kind of flooring you have to choose.
Hardwood flooring also comes in different kinds of styles that can really add beauty for your home. There are zigzag patterns, circular patterns, square patterns and more. All you have to do is be creative.
Carpeting is very popular, especially in places where it is cold. Just try to imagine in winter, the feeling of walking barefoot in cold floors is very unpleasant. This is why carpeting is considered in some parts of the country.
It is important that you should choose a kind of flooring that is suitable where you live. If you live in cold places, it is advisable to have carpets for your floors. If you live in warm, tropical places, hardwood flooring is probably your choice. This is because hardwood flooring provides a very fresh look in your home.
Now, how can you install your floorings properly? If you know carpentry, it can be easy for you to install your floorings without the need for outside help. However, if you don’t know anything about carpentry, it is probably wise if you hire an expert to build your floorings properly and accurately. You can also buy one of those easy to install floorings with instructions at your local home improvement stores in your area if you don’t want to spend cash to hire a professional.
These are some of the different types of flooring available. Just remember to be creative when installing your flooring in order to get the results you want for your home.

When the power is out and there is a great need to keep thing moving and working, you have to resort and prepare your portable generator.
Portable generator is commonly used as a temporary source of power for emergency after calamity like hurricane or tornado. The portable generator keeps machines and lights going if there is a need for rescue and retrieval especially during nighttime.
However, when used improperly, portable generator might be hazardous to people. This is why, it is a great responsibility to keep portable generator use in the right order.
There are 4 eminent hazards that can be imposed by portable generators:
1. Carbon monoxide CO release from the generator’s exhaust,
2. Fires that are commonly caused by improper refueling,
3. Electrocution or shocks caused by wrong connection or improper use of power to generate other devices, and
4. Vibration and noise hazards.
Carbon monoxide is a kind of gas that is toxic. More often than not, people died from carbon dioxide suffocation because of its undetectable nature. Unlike other gases, carbon dioxide is colorless and odorless that makes it more impossible to detect.
To avoid carbon dioxide poisoning, keep the portable generation in places where there is proper ventilation. Never place it on close spaces like rooms, basements, or garage. Never place it beside windows, doors, or near openings where people might be staying. Keep in mind that open windows or doors do not guarantee the prevention of carbon dioxide build up if in case you run it indoors. Portable generator can also enter open doors or windows even if it is running outdoor. If anyone experiences symptoms of carbon dioxide poisoning including dizziness, nausea, headache and tiredness, keep the person on open area where he can get fresh air.
Generators are like car engines. And when engines run, they get hot. Same as generators do. But unlike car engines, you cannot refuel generators while running or even shortly after they are shut down because they remain hot for a long period of time. Let the generator cool down for a while. Refuel it if the temperature is safe. Fire also occurs even before your intention of refuel it. This refers particularly when your gasoline containers are located near or beside the generator. As was said, generators produce heat. The heat could affect the temperature of the fuel if placed beside the generator. Keep the fuel containers nowhere near the generator or in any place it could absorb heat. And keep heat-generating devices away from the fuel.
Consider generators like your ordinary power source. Since generators lack safety devices such as circuit breakers and transformers, they are more harmful if in case you happen to get electrocuted. To avoid this from happening, keep every connection clear and clean. Avoid tangling or unnecessary and unsafe connections. Never ever let your generator work under the rain. Keep the generator dry as much as possible. Use canopy for cover in case it rains. Never attempt to connect any devices barefooted. And never use wet electric devices under all circumstances.
Portable generators create noise and vibrate. As much as possible, keep it away from the center of the work place. If you happen to work near the portable generator, wear necessary ear protection.
With this set of advice, you can spare yourself and other people from the danger portable generators might inflict.

The Tai Chi (Yin-Yang) symbol is a circle split in half, with a thick white part narrowing into a black section which widens towards the white part on the other end. The black part represents feminine energy and the white part represents masculine, as in night verses day, cold verses hot.
The little dots in the center of each thick part, acknowledge that nothing is “all black or all white.” There is a little bit of the opposite or polarity in everything, in the same way that men have some female hormones and women have some male hormones.
The black yin part is often associated with environments that are dark, cold, damp, closed in, small, narrow, still and quiet.
The white yang part of the Tai Chi symbol is associated with light, heat, dryness, openess, large, wide, movement and sound.
Just as a mountain is still (yin) and the ocean moves (yang), any environment can be categorized as basically yin or yang and when it gets extreme, it can throw a place out of balance.
As an example, we need wind and water movement as essential aspects of nature, but when the wind and water get extreme we can have hurricanes and tsunamis causing a lot of damage.
There is nothing inherently wrong with a dark space, but if a person lived in a chronically dark space they would get depressed. So the essence of the Tai Chi symbol is the essence of feng shui–to create and maintain balance of these two forces. Within the scope of feng shui, where the same environment can affect people differently, we also have to consider the function of the space.
The value we place on defining a space as yin or yang also has to do with what kinds of activities take place there and what may be appropriate for one location is not for another. As an example, if a residence is situated on a busy street, we can categorize that as “too yang.” There is too much energy whipping by the house. It can cause arguments and discord in the house. But if that same structure was a store on a busy street, it can create more foot traffic, visibility, and therefore business. So all the exposure is not “too yang” for a business.
Yin-Yang theory can also be applied to colors, shapes of furniture pieces, even types of sound. As an example, water which makes a delicate tinkling sound compared to a raging river, which would be too “yang” to be relaxing.
Kartar Diamond, owner of Feng Shui Solutions, has been consulting on the feng shui of homes and businesses since 1992. She has auditted thousands of properties and has received very positive feedback regarding the analysis and remedies for environments that were initially deemed too yin or too yang.
